Metaphor

Type:

Poetic Device

Description:

Metaphor means “to carry or bring across or beyond” in Greek. An allegorical equation of two things not using the words “like” or “as.” There are two parts: the tenor and the vehicle. The tenor is the thing being compared and the vehicle what you are comparing to. “The year is a bird swooping fast as it dives to its end in the western sea.” The tenor is year and the vehicle the bird.
