Fixate on the details.

No subject is too small to write a poem or song about. Hair in sunlight, the wonderful and ingenious paperclip, cuff links, or even a postmark or a paper cut.

These last two were Peter Berryman examples. The man is a genius for finding inspiration everywhere. The reference link goes to Peter’s Whither Zither column on the Web. Peter’s columns are gems. They’re also compendia of strange information and great songwriting ideas. Although we haven’t included a specific, separate recommendation in this book, we do recommend any poets or songwriters wishing to improve should check the references appendix and follow where those links lead.
