This tip sounds like, “Eat your peas, they’re good for you.” In many ways, it is similar. Learn your poetic devices, they’ll make you grow big and strong. There are many devices that a poet may use. Some are very well known and often taught as early as elementary school. Others are either old to the point of obsolescence in modern poetry or not an English-language based tradition. That doesn't mean they can't be revived or adapted to modern English usages.
