Name your works.

If you don’t put a title to your poem or song, some editor will. Editors are very boring people who think that naming a poem based on the first line or on a number is good. Who could ever forget Sonnet XXVI or Ballade MCMXXI?

So, you have an opportunity as a poet or songwriter. You can come up with your own titles. The title can be used in so many ways. It can be a Bridging Title. It can be a key to unlock the central, but unstated metaphor of a poem. It can be used in a hundred other ways. The title is a tool that should be used. Don’t leave a work untitled unless you have a specific reason.
