Say it out loud!

Preston Sturges was known best for the snappy dialogue in his films. He composed his screen plays by talking while somebody else took dictation. By reciting your conversations out loud, maybe even with vocal characterizations, you will get a better feel for whether your conversations seem conversational. You could also treat your poem as a play with different people taking the parts of your characters and see if the conversations work and seem realistic.
