Too serious is funny.

Think about the overly serious and solemn reactions of a drunk. The overplaying can be quite funny. Take a minor affair and blow it out of all proportion. Treat it with great solemnity befitting a state occasion. Does it make it funnier? Imagine an ode on the occasion of a child’s fifth birthday party, making it sound like a Presidential inauguration or investment of a king on the throne. Being too serious can be one pathway to levity, although it might also not be understood and people might think you are too serious. Of course, having people not understand humor is always a risk.
